Some snaps of Soul-tallica (SR with Metallica) and Billy Joe Armstrong from Green Day, from week of festivities surrounding December’s Metallica Birthday Bash at the SF Fillmore.
New Orleans brass ensemble, the Soul Rebels, opened for Metallica at their Filmore anniversary shows in San Francisco last year. The concerts were in celebration of Metallica’s debut at the Filmore in 1981 – 30 years ago. Each show kicked off with a tribute by the Soul Rebels who rebelized Metallica classics, including “Enter Sandman” and “One.”
Metallica and Soul Rebels both performed in London in November on BBC’s Later…With Jools Holland. The members of Metallica were immediately enthralled and the next day, the Soul Rebels were invited to open and perform for their 30th Anniversary Celebration. Soul Rebels Sax player, Erion Williams said “Opening for Metallica is certainly one of, if not the crowning achievement of my career thus far. To be mentioned in the same light as legends this week was unbelievable. We certainly hope to be at their level of greatness in the future.”
The Soul Rebels will be releasing their national debut album, Unlock Your Mind, on January 31. At the forefront of New Orleans’ musical revitalization, the Soul Rebels bring a resurgent energy to the album, filling it with the most exciting, head-spinning, body-pumping music to emerge from the city in years. The band will be touring across the U.S. in February and March 2012 as both a headliner and as part of the Galactic Tour.
