Today, New Orleans brass/hip-hop ensemble The Soul Rebels, release their debut album Poetry In Motion via Rebelution Music Group, on Artistry Music/Mack Avenue Music Group. The new album, on the cusp of the group’s coming of age, is a genre-bending adventure. A year in the making, Poetry In Motion is a wonderfully crafted story packed with punchlines and sounds that are in a lane of its own. Without limits, the eight-man band’s brilliant artistry shines on all twelve tracks of this project and is reflective of just how game-changing they are.
To accompany the release of Poetry In Motion, The Soul Rebels share a new video for their pump-up jam “Blow The Horns.” Directed by Roberto Serrini and produced by CAROUSEL, the energetic visual cuts between the octet grooving out in a playful jam session and a storyline of female fighters training ahead of an upcoming bout.
On the heels of their rollout, The Soul Rebels groovy, anthemic tune “Greatness” was tapped by ESPN to be featured as the network’s official College Hoops Blockbuster promo song for the 2019-20 season. Their campaign will launch on October 30th. What better mantra than one that trumpets excellence?
An unhampered approach to music-making, The Soul Rebels reflect on what it was like making Poetry In Motion: “The writing and recording process for this album was like no other. There’s a lot of personal themes explored because we’re telling the story about our lives. Each track has its own flavor and spice from each member, and you can feel it.”
From Nola bounce inspired “Good Time” to the bluesy “Blush,” Poetry In Motion speaks a language that dances on the pulse of each track effortlessly. Beautifully marrying words and instruments in unconventional ways, The Soul Rebels, Poetry In Motion is a show and tell of breaking through musical boundaries.
All for pushing the envelope, the group describes this project as “powerful,” with “something everyone can and will enjoy throughout time.”
Hailing features from artists like Big Freedia, Matisyahu, Trombone Shorty, PJ Morton, and Robert Glasper, Poetry In Motion is an unparalleled exploration of the musical unknown. Entering newfound realms of possibility, The Soul Rebels prove just how much they can up the ante because as they’ll tell it, there are “no boundaries in our music.”
With hopes that this project “moves the world,” the eight-piece outfit stamp Poetry In Motion as “the beginning of a new sound.”
More than an album, Poetry In Motion is an experience that perhaps no other band has been able to tap into the way The Souls Rebels have.
